ASAPIO Integration Add-on
Key features
- Out-of-the-box connectivity to Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hubs and Azure Event Grid
- Supports a wide range of SAP NetWeaver based systems, including SAP ERP, S/4HANA, BW, HCM and many more
- Requires SAP NetWeaver 7.31 or higher as SAP_BASIS component
- Works with any DB supported by SAP NetWeaver, including SAP HANA
- REST-based communication
- Supports both event-driven (single events) and batch mode (job-driven) data transfer
- Batch mode supports multi-threading, for load distribution to multiple SAP work processes
Which services are supported on the Azure cloud platform?
Azure Event Hubs is a big data streaming platform and event ingestion service. It can receive and process millions of events per second. Data sent to an event hub can be transformed and stored by using any real-time analytics provider or batching/storage adapters.
Azure Service Bus is a fully managed enterprise message broker with message queues and publish-subscribe topics. Service Bus is used to decouple applications and services from each other.
Azure Event Grid — Simplify your event-based apps with Event Grid, a single service for managing routing of all events from any source to any destination. Designed for high availability, consistent performance, and dynamic scale, Event Grid lets you focus on your app logic rather than infrastructure.
From these 3 entry points, many Microsoft Power Platform services, e.g. Power Automate, Power BI, as well as office applications like Microsoft Teams can be connected.
Supported integration scenarios
- Directly connect to one of the supported event-driven services on Microsoft Azure platform, using standard SAP connectivity technology
- Model the message payload directly from SAP application data or database views
- Switch between real-time event messaging and batch-driven data extraction
- For real-time mode, you can use SAP Business Object events, IDocs and other built-in SAP features as triggers
- For batch-driven mode, we provide micro-batching and workload distribution features
- Data extractors and formatter are fully extensible (BAdIs, custom code)
Supported SAP infrastructure:
- SAP S/4HANA (SAP HANA and AnyDB)
- SAP ECC (SAP HANA and AnyDB)
- Private cloud and on-premises SAP landscapes
- Works with SAP-on-Azure systems
Connectivity features:
- Bi-directional
- Direct, no PI/PO
- No-code/low-code
- Real-time events
- Batch loads
Connects to:
- Azure Event Grid
- Azure Event Hubs
- Azure Service Bus
- Azure Power Platform
- Office, Teams, …
How it works with ASAPIO
- Directly connect to one of the supported event-driven services on Microsoft Azure platform, using standard SAP connectivity technology
- Model the message payload directly from SAP application data or database views
- Choose between real-time event messaging and batch-driven data extraction for each interface
- For real-time mode, you can use SAP Business Object events, IDocs and other built-in SAP features as triggers
- For batch-driven mode, we provide micro-batching and workload distribution features
- Data extractors and formatter are fully extensible (BAdIs, custom code)
Architecture
SAP throws thousands of built-in events – ASAPIO makes them available to Azure. With that concept, you can turn a change in an SAP business transaction into an event message, enbaling new capabilities e.g.:
- Sales order created/changed
- Purchase order created/changed
- Material master created/changed
- Stock level created/changed
- Accounting object created/changed
- Asset information created/changed
- and thousands more

Typical Business Use Cases
Online Shops and Retail (B2C): High frequency, real-time data exchange of mission critical data, as well as mass data transfers
Supply Chain and Procurement (B2B): Often event–based system-to-system integration, high performance data exchange, mission-critical processes
Service Orders, Plant Maintenance, Equipment: Inbound + outbound integration, many diverse receiving systems
Analytics and Data Lakes: Fast mass data transfer, migrate initial data to the cloud, use incremental loads
Payload Designer and Standard Payloads
With ASAPIO Payload Designer, you can define the payload of event messages or batch interfaces using a configuration-only interface, without coding. It also comes with a set of pre-delivered ASAPIO payload types and versions, where a version can also mean a different scope of fields or other settings.
